The Creators Cannes Still Doesn’t Know How to Talk About
The Creator Economy Is Finally Having Its Moment. But It's Still Leaving Millions of Creators Behind.
This year, the marketing world gathered once again at Cannes Lions to celebrate the creator economy. Brand leaders, agencies, and creators took the stage to discuss influence, community, and the future of marketing. It was a huge step forward—and a well-deserved one.
But there was one group of creators that was noticeably absent from the conversation.
Spicy content creators.
Collectively, platforms like OnlyFans, Fansly, and Fanvue represent millions of creators, hundreds of millions of fans, and billions of dollars in annual transactions, making them one of the largest direct-to-consumer creator economies in the world. Yet when the advertising industry talks about "creators," it rarely includes the entrepreneurs who arguably understand subscriptions, community building, customer retention, and direct monetization better than almost anyone.
Why?
More importantly...
What infrastructure is still missing?
In my latest article, I explore why the future of the creator economy isn't simply about more creators—it requires better infrastructure. That means editorial media, professional networking, discoverability, trusted identities, brand partnerships, and platforms designed specifically for creators who have historically been left on the outside looking in.
That's exactly why we built Only Fans Insider Magazine and Sxgram.
Not to create another social network.
To help build the business infrastructure that allows creators, agencies, technology companies, advertisers, and brands to finally participate in the same conversation.
I'd love to hear your thoughts.
